CATHY J. GOODALE

"My passion is nature, where everything connects for me.
This energy saturates my work."

EDUCATION

Cathy is a dedicated, persistent, and educated artist whose style reflects her individuality. Her career has been filled with painting, teaching and learning. The demand for excellence continues to drive all of her endeavors in life and her imagination pushes her to paint past her "artistic safe places".

Growing up in Denver, Colorado, Cathy remembers her grandmother's scrapbooks filled with classic fine art reproductions. This early introduction to art classics was instrumental in leading Cathy to Stephens College in Missouri and to a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Northern Colorado. She continued her art training at Denver University, studying commercial art under William Sanderson.

The opportunity to study with the best has been a gift. She has studied with Charles Reid, Richard Schmid, Burt Silverman, Carolyn Anderson and Zolton Szabo, to name a few. Through her continual studies she has obtained a strong work ethic and discipline as an artist, living by a Georgia O' Keeffe quote, "everything I do, I do so I can paint".

PASSIONS

Cathy's family is always a very important part of her life. Children and Grandchildren have always been a source of inspiration for her art and life; they are one of her greatest teachers.

Watercolor, which lent itself to the spontaneity associated with her subject, became Cathy's magical media. "Children, the figure, florals, landscape and animals is where I find a honest, uninhibited tie to the basics of life. I find a porous exchange with nature and feel like I am partaking in the true spirit of living.

The opportunity to paint with Richard Schmid for a number of years ignited the passion for oil painting, once again. Now the subject inspires me as to whether a painting should be an oil painting or a watercolor.

TEACHING

Teaching forces Cathy to clearly define the technical, conceptual and philosophical elements of painting. Cathy has taught for the Scottsdale Artist School, the Loveland Academy, Phil Levine Workshops, Adventure in Arts workshops, The Art Center of Estes Park, Colorado State University's Elderhostel Program plus the Goodale Weakley Workshops. Cathy also teaches her own classes in Estes Park, Colorado and Loveland Colorado. A positive force in my teaching and painting career has been my good friend Ellie Weakley. We have developed a thriving teaching business." Teaching and painting has taken Cathy to Russia, Italy, France, Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain as well as numerous beautiful locations in the United States.
